Shiro – bath element

Shiro means ‘white’ in Japanese; here it is a philosophical translation where white is perceived as the purest of forms and functions. Hence Shiro is one pure element with multiple uses made viable by its form.

The main element is a freestanding bath tub with rounded ergonomic ends for sitting or storage. At the end of the bath the form extends so that a simple circular ‘mono basin’ can be incorporated into the design. Storage is provided underneath and the circular theme is repeated in the finger pull design.

One main spout supplies water to two taps feeding the basin and the bath. Plumbing is centralized and therefore simplified and ensures there is a single waste point for the entire unit. The other advantage of the mono block form is that bathroom walls are kept free of fixtures and other elements so that the room is clean, functional and pure of form.

The design has other possibilities – surface mounted basins can be fitted to the base bathtub allowing multiple styles and for the unit to be tailored to a range of bathroom shapes and sizes.

Shiro is made from Cristalplant® a biobased product that retains the cosy and welcoming properties of natural stone.
